Kyrgyzstan Celebrates 90th Anniversary of Ton District with Akyn Competition

Kyrgyzstan celebrated the 90th anniversary of its Ton District in the Issyk-Kul region with a national competition of improvising poets, known as akyns. The event, held on August 10, 2026, brought together poets from all corners of the country to honor the district's milestone.

Participants engaged in the traditional Kyrgyz art form, demonstrating their eloquence, mastery, and poetic talent. The competition served as a platform to celebrate and preserve this rich cultural heritage. The Ministry of Culture, Information, and Youth Policy reported that the akyns "praised traditional Kyrgyz art, showcasing their eloquence, skill, and poetic talent."

A total prize fund of 1 million Kyrgyz som was awarded to the winners. The Grand Prix was shared between Turat Zhumayev and Kutman Sadybakasov. First place was awarded to Esenbek Kiyizbaev and Argen Biymyrza uulu. Second place went to Bayan Akmatov and Ajybek Duysho uulu, while third place was secured by Zhyldyzbek Törökanov and Nursultan Maldybaev.
