Kyrgyzstan Declares August 31 Holiday; September 1 Off for Bishkek Budget Workers

Kyrgyzstan's Ministry of Labor has clarified the holiday schedule for late August and early September. August 31, Independence Day, is a public holiday. Employees can be asked to work on this day with their written consent and compensation, which can be a day off, added to vacation, or paid at least double the usual rate. This applies unless the work is essential and cannot be stopped, such as continuous production or public services.

According to the Labor Code, August 31 – Independence Day of Kyrgyzstan – is a non-working holiday.

Additionally, a government resolution designates September 1 as a day off for employees of budget organizations in Bishkek. This day off includes the preservation of average daily wages. For private sector companies, granting September 1 as a day off is recommended but not mandatory.

Work on August 31 must be compensated by agreement of the parties in one of the following ways: by providing another day of rest, by adding this day to the annual leave, or by monetary compensation in the amount of at least double the labor payment.

The ministry's announcement aims to provide clarity on labor regulations during these upcoming holidays, ensuring both employee rights and operational needs are considered.

Furthermore, by resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated July 10, 2026, No. 479, September 1 is declared a выходной day for employees of budget organizations located in Bishkek, with the preservation of average daily earnings.
