Kyrgyzstan expands organic farming area to over 101,000 hectares

Kyrgyzstan is actively working to develop its organic agriculture sector, significantly increasing the land dedicated to organic farming. As of June 30, 2026, the total area involved in organic production reached 101,358.21 hectares.

Eleven cooperatives are currently engaged in the production and processing of organic goods according to international standards. Six of these cooperatives received their certifications in 2025. Their operations span a variety of products, including cotton, medicinal herbs, apricots, beans, walnuts, and pistachios, which are then sold in both domestic and international markets. The total land area dedicated to these certified cooperatives amounts to 11,392 hectares.

In addition to certified cooperatives, Kyrgyzstan is implementing a Participatory Guarantee System (PGS) in 37 regions. This system involves producers directly in ensuring organic standards. Primarily focused on fruits and vegetables, this initiative covers an area of 85,257.04 hectares and targets local market sales.

Furthermore, the country is establishing pilot private farms dedicated to organic production. These farms receive training on the PGS system and the requirements for international certification. Their combined area is 4,709.17 hectares. Kyrgyzstan plans to continue its efforts to expand organic production, enhance farmer knowledge, and broaden market access for its organic products.
