Kyrgyzstan to build multi-story housing in Ат-Башинский district following presidential order

President Sadyr Жапаров has directed the immediate commencement of construction for multi-story residential buildings in Kyrgyzstan's Ат-Башинский district, located in the Naryn region. This directive came during a meeting with local residents, signaling a significant policy shift towards concentrated urban development.

The State Mortgage Company (ГИК) has allocated 3.5 hectares of land for this project. Local authorities report that 5,260 individuals are currently on the waiting list for land plots in the district, with 850 of them residing in the district's main town. The Ministry of Construction has approved the construction of buildings up to five stories high on this designated territory. President Жапаров emphasized the need to prioritize vertical growth over horizontal expansion, urging local administrations to cease allocating land for individual housing construction.

"I tell the akims and ayil okmotu: do not allocate land for private house construction anymore, better transfer it to the GIK. We need to develop not outwards, but upwards," stated Жапаров. He cited the example of the Алайский district, where over three hectares allocated to ГИК are planned for nine-story buildings. Жапаров noted that while individual plots might accommodate about 50 families, multi-story buildings on the same area could house approximately 1,500 people.

This initiative is part of a larger state strategy to actively develop regional centers and smaller towns. The government intends to implement multi-unit housing projects not only in regional capitals but also in more remote areas, aiming to improve living conditions and manage urban sprawl effectively. The president stressed that work should begin without delay, underscoring the urgency of this development model.
