Kyrgyzstan to establish National Chess Academy

Kyrgyzstan will establish a National Chess Academy under the Kyrgyz Chess Union after President Sadyr Japarov signed the relevant decree.

The institution aims to improve the training system for players competing at international level and create a modern base for developing young people’s intellectual potential. The decree also provides state support for high-performing athletes and coaches.

Funding may cover participation in international competitions and training camps, equipment purchases and other aspects of professional development. Chess development and promotion were previously named a priority of state social policy for 2026 to 2030.

The plans also include a chess development fund. The presidential fund is expected to allocate 100 million soms to establish it.
