Kyrgyzstan Transported Nearly 320 Million Passengers in First Half of 2026

Kyrgyzstan's transportation sector moved nearly 320 million passengers in the first six months of 2026, marking a 6.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This surge in passenger traffic was driven by significant growth in railway and road transport, according to data from the National Statistical Committee.

Railway transport emerged as the fastest-growing segment, carrying 223,500 passengers and experiencing a remarkable 34.4% increase in usage. Bus and minibus services remained the dominant mode of public transport, serving 296.7 million passengers, a 6.8% rise from the previous year. Taxi services also saw a modest increase, with 19.2 million passengers, up 3.3%.

Conversely, trolleybus services faced a sharp decline, with passenger numbers dropping by 25.5% to just over 2.5 million. Air transport also experienced a downturn, carrying 787,700 passengers, a 3.1% decrease. These shifts indicate a changing preference among travelers, with a move towards rail and road, and away from air and trolleybus options.

In terms of freight, the total volume transported across all modes of transport reached 32.2 million tons, an increase of 4.7%. Road transport accounted for the largest share, with 26.8 million tons, up 4.9%. Railway freight increased by 3.6% to 5.1 million tons, while pipeline transport saw a significant 9.1% rise, moving 247,400 tons. Air freight, however, decreased by 1.5% to 13,500 tons.

Communication and postal services also showed positive trends. Revenue from communication services reached 20.7 billion soms, a 6.6% increase. Postal and courier services experienced a substantial jump of 24%, generating 1.6 billion soms.
