Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan target $3 billion trade volume

Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan are setting an ambitious goal to triple their mutual trade to $3 billion. This target hinges on deepening cooperation in transport, logistics, and industrial sectors.

Relations between the two countries have reached an unprecedented level in recent years. Trade and economic ties are actively developing, joint investment projects and major infrastructure initiatives are being implemented.

Kyrgyzstan's Foreign Minister, Jeenbek Kulubaev, highlighted the unprecedented level of relations between the two nations in recent years. He noted the active development of trade and economic ties, alongside the implementation of joint investment and major infrastructure projects. The Uzbek-Kyrgyz Development Fund plays a crucial role, having approved 37 projects worth over $100 million, creating approximately 900 jobs. The fund supports initiatives in textiles, energy, logistics, manufacturing, and public transportation.

Industrial cooperation is also expanding, with a memorandum signed to develop free economic and industrial zones. A significant focus is on enhancing transportation links, including the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project, which aims to bolster East-West connectivity and reshape Central Asian logistics.

The parties are paying special attention to the development of transportation links. Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, and China are jointly implementing China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan railway project. According to Kulubaev, the new route should strengthen transportation links between East and West and change the logistics configuration of Central Asia.

Furthermore, discussions are underway for the multi-billion dollar Kambarata-Ata hydropower plant (HPP-1). Cultural and humanitarian ties are also strengthening through increased events, scientific, and educational exchanges. Kyrgyzstan plans to open a Consulate General in Andijan to further facilitate trade, tourism, logistics, and cultural contacts.
