La Cúpula: A show that prioritizes experience over narrative

Flavio Mendoza's new production, "La Cúpula," eschews traditional theatrical categories, aiming instead to deliver an "experience" that fuses diverse artistic disciplines and cutting-edge technology. Housed within a striking 360-degree dome devoid of obstructive columns, the venue itself is designed to facilitate this immersive vision. Mobile platforms and sophisticated mapping projections that transform the ceiling contribute to a dynamic sensory landscape.

The show presents a rendition of Oscar Wilde's "The Happy Prince," a tale set in 1888 London, rich with themes of monarchy, opulence, and the stark contrast between wealth and suffering. The narrative unfolds through the prince's golden statue, adorned with a ruby and sapphires, and the plight of a seamstress and a starving writer. The story's tragic elements, including the statue's jewels being sacrificed to alleviate poverty, are presented with a surprisingly festive and upbeat rhythm.
