La Guaira Restores 90% Electricity, 84% Water After Quakes; Commerce Rebounds

La Guaira state in Venezuela is showing significant signs of recovery after recent seismic activity, with authorities reporting substantial progress in restoring essential services. Governor José Alejandro Terán announced that 90% of the electrical service and 84% of the potable water supply have been reinstated in the region, which suffered extensive damage.

Terán highlighted the reactivation of public transportation, stating that 32 routes are now operational with more than 210 vehicles. Fuel stations are fully supplied, and commercial activity is rebounding, with 95% of businesses reopened in the least affected central parishes and an overall 65% reopening rate across the state. However, the governor identified 15 critical points requiring further attention, particularly in the hardest-hit areas of Caraballeda, Macuto, and Playa Grande in Catia La Mar.

We already have 32 routes (of public transport) active with more than 210 units. All service stations are saturated with fuel. In the commercial sector, in the central parishes, which were the least affected, 95% of commerce is already reopened and, generally across the state, we are already reaching 65%.

In parallel, a plan is in place for the disposal of debris generated by the earthquakes. The state has designated the Santa Eduvigis landfill for this purpose, with a capacity to handle over three million tons of rubble across five hectares. Meanwhile, Jacqueline Faría, president of the Venezuela Renace mission, provided an update on housing recovery. She noted that while 9,055 homes are under construction nationwide, in La Guaira, 49% of visited households are habitable, with another 27% deemed uninhabitable due to severe damage.
