La Liga: Madrid sign Diomande in €140m deal

Real Madrid has secured the signing of highly-rated Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig in a deal potentially worth €140 million (£120 million). The 19-year-old winger has penned a seven-year contract with the Spanish giants, positioning him among the club's most expensive acquisitions in its history.

Diomande's transfer follows an outstanding campaign with RB Leipzig, where he was recognized as the Bundesliga Young Player of the Season. His impressive performances, including 12 league goals and eight assists, along with 13 goals and 10 assists across all competitions, attracted significant interest from top European clubs. Paris Saint-Germain were reportedly leading the race before withdrawing after their €120 million bid was rejected, while Liverpool also had an offer of £69 million turned down.

The young winger also represented Ivory Coast at the FIFA World Cup, participating in all four matches as the team reached the quarter-finals. Diomande's rapid rise began after moving from his native Ivory Coast to an academy in the United States, followed by a stint with Spanish side Leganés before his move to RB Leipzig.

Diomande becomes Real Madrid's sixth signing of the summer under head coach Jose Mourinho. He joins Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté, Denzel Dumfries, Marc Cucurella, and Carlos Espi in bolstering the squad. Known for his pace, dribbling ability, and versatility on either wing, Diomande is expected to significantly enhance Real Madrid's attacking capabilities ahead of the new season. The Spanish champions view him as one of Europe's most promising young talents with the potential to become a key player for the club.
