La Liga Postpones Celta Vigo vs. Osasuna Match Due to Turf Fungus

The opening match of the La Liga season between Celta Vigo and Osasuna, slated for Sunday, has been postponed due to the poor condition of the pitch at Balaídos stadium. A fungal infection has severely impacted the turf, leading the league, in coordination with both clubs and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), to reschedule the game.

The postponed fixture is now set to take place on August 27 at 8:30 PM. This decision means Celta Vigo's league debut will be delayed, with their first match now being an away game against Valencia on August 22. Osasuna's season opener will also be pushed back.

LALIGA, in coordination with both clubs and the RFEF, has decided to postpone the match that was to face @RCCelta and @Osasuna next Sunday at ABANCA Balaídos due to a disease that has affected the stadium's turf.

Celta Vigo issued a statement expressing regret for the inconvenience caused to fans who had already made arrangements to attend the match. The club noted that a technical visit from La Liga the previous week had validated the efforts to eradicate the turf disease and confirmed the stadium met quality and safety standards. However, recent adverse weather conditions negatively affected the pitch's recovery, prompting the suspension.

The league's official announcement was made via social media, confirming the postponement and the new date, emphasizing the collaborative decision-making process involving the clubs and the RFEF.
