La Paz Returns to Winter School Hours Amid Temperature Drop

The La Paz District Education Directorate has ordered a return to winter school hours, effective Monday, August 24, 2026. This decision comes in response to the anticipated drop in temperatures for the upcoming week, aiming to protect students' health amidst adverse weather conditions.

The new schedule dictates that students attending the morning session will begin their classes 30 minutes later than their usual start time. Conversely, students in the afternoon session will be dismissed 30 minutes earlier than their regular end time. This adjustment is designed to mitigate the impact of the colder weather on the students.

This measure will affect all educational levels, including initial, primary, and secondary education, across public schools, private institutions, and those operating under convenio agreements. Additionally, special education centers within the La Paz department are also included in this directive. The aim is to ensure a consistent application of the winter schedule throughout the region's educational institutions.

The decision was made following recommendations from the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) and the Departmental Health Service (Sedes). The District Directorate has instructed all school principals to promptly communicate the updated schedule to students, parents, and teachers to ensure compliance from the beginning of the week. The goal is to maintain an uninterrupted educational process while prioritizing student well-being.
