Labour Party to ratify 2027 election candidates at NEC meeting

The Labour Party is gearing up for the 2027 general elections with a crucial National Executive Committee meeting scheduled for June 11. The primary objective of this gathering is to formally ratify the results of the party's recently concluded primary elections. This ratification is essential for approving the submission of candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The meeting is expected to ratify the results of the party’s primary elections conducted across the country and approve the submission of candidates that emerged from the exercise to INEC in accordance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the party’s constitution.

The NEC meeting, convened in line with the party's constitution, will bring together statutory members, primary election winners, party organs, INEC representatives, and media stakeholders. It will serve to officially validate the outcomes of primaries held nationwide and authorize the submission of the names of successful candidates to INEC, adhering to the Electoral Act and the party's own constitution.

The party also wishes to inform all successful candidates from the primaries that the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for the offices of President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives shall commence immediately after the ratification of the primary election results by the NEC.

Following the ratification, the party plans to commence the presentation of Certificates of Return to candidates for key positions, including President, Governor, Senate, and House of Representatives. The Labour Party emphasizes the strategic importance of this NEC session, noting it is the first such meeting since its national convention and the emergence of candidates, highlighting its role in the party's overall preparations and mobilization for the 2027 polls.
