Lack of ombudsman during elections would harm citizens, says legal expert

The absence of an ombudsman during Serbia's election campaign would be highly detrimental to citizens, according to legal expert Ana Toskić Cvetinović. As director of the organization Partneri Srbija, she emphasized the critical role such an office plays in safeguarding public interests, particularly when sensitive data is involved.

Toskić Cvetinović pointed to the ongoing abuse of data secrecy as a significant concern during the electoral period. She argued that without an independent ombudsman to oversee and protect citizens' rights, there is a greater risk of misuse of personal information and potential manipulation.

Her statement underscores the importance of having an accessible and effective mechanism to address grievances and ensure transparency throughout the election process. The lack of such a figure, she contends, leaves citizens vulnerable and undermines the fairness of the elections.
