Lagos commuters stranded as overturned trailer causes gridlock inward Berger

Commuters in Lagos faced severe disruptions on Sunday as an overturned trailer, laden with cartons, blocked the inward Berger route on Ogunnusi Road. The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the morning, was attributed to a mechanical failure, specifically damage to the vehicle's suspension system.

An overnight incident was reported where a trailer loaded with cartons overturned due to a mechanical failure on Ogunnusi Road inward Berger, by Kosoko Junction.

Officials from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) were promptly dispatched to the scene. They initiated traffic diversion measures and recovery operations to clear the affected route and restore the normal flow of traffic. The authority confirmed the accident near Kosoko Junction, noting that the trailer's body rested on its tires due to the suspension failure.

The suspension springs were damaged, causing the trailer body to rest on its tyres. Transloading of the cargo to a flatbed trailer is currently ongoing.

Transloading of the cargo onto another trailer is currently underway. LASTMA has cordoned off the road from VIS Turning and implemented a contraflow system from VIS Turning to River Valley to mitigate the impact on traffic. The agency stated that its rescue team and personnel from Zone 26 are actively managing the situation.

Broken-down heavy-duty vehicles and mechanical issues with articulated trucks are frequent causes of traffic congestion on Lagos roads, particularly on major corridors connecting the mainland to commercial hubs. LASTMA continues to provide updates as recovery efforts progress.
