Lagos golf association puts inclusion at the center of Leadership Cup

The Lagos State Golf Association used its Leadership Cup to take golf beyond its traditional audience. At least 180 golfers participated in the event at the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938, which combined competition with leadership, networking and social impact.

One of the event’s main features was a Leadership Golf Clinic for 20 prominent leaders. Participants included permanent secretaries in the Lagos State Government and senior executives from the financial services and capital market sectors.

Princess Damilola Sunayon, representing Lagos Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, performed the ceremonial leadership tee-off at the opening ceremony. Maureen Tamuno, group managing director of Abuja Investment Company Limited, also backed the initiative. She presented a golf accessories prize to the best player in the Queens of the Greens category, highlighting women’s participation in the sport.

The prize presentation and gala dinner drew figures from the corporate, political, social and sporting communities. The Lagos Golf Experience was created as a flagship platform for presenting the vision of the Lagos State Golf Association’s new executive committee.

The association says it wants more women aged 18 and above, along with children and young people, to discover golf. Its Leadership Golf Clinic, Queens of the Greens and related initiatives frame the sport as more than competition, promoting networking, mentorship, personal development and community building. The association is chaired by Deji Johnson, with Kemi Olowoyo-Otegbade serving as vice-chairman.
