Lagos hospital operations reviewed amid space constraints

The Lagos State Health Service Commission (HSC) has conducted a review of operations at the General Hospital, Somolu, to assess its compliance, sanitation, and overall service delivery.

Mrs. Omolayo Ololade Fadipe, Commissioner IV on the HSC Board, led a supervisory visit to the facility. She expressed satisfaction with the hospital's compliance levels but acknowledged the immense pressure on personnel due to existing space limitations. Despite these challenges, Fadipe commended the hospital staff for the volume and quality of work they consistently deliver, urging them to maintain their performance.

The visit included an inspection of the site for a new hospital project, which is seen as crucial given the current space constraints and the increasing demand for healthcare services in the Somolu area. While the HSC statement noted the significance of the project, it did not provide details on the projected completion date or the capacity of the new facility.

She commended the volume and quality of work being delivered by the staff despite the constraints and urged them to sustain their performance.

Dr. Adesina Ayodele, the Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer of General Hospital, Somolu, expressed gratitude for the state government's investment in healthcare. He specifically linked the ongoing hospital project to efforts aimed at improving healthcare access for Somolu residents. Ayodele assured that the hospital's management and staff would continue to provide quality services in line with the administration's THEMES Plus agenda.

This inspection is part of Fadipe's statutory responsibilities, which involve the routine evaluation of six designated state-owned secondary healthcare facilities. Her oversight includes assessing clinical standards, sanitation, service delivery, identifying infrastructure gaps, and addressing operational and welfare concerns with medical directors and health workers.
