Lagos makes LASRRA registration compulsory for school enrolment

Starting with the 2026/2027 academic session, every learner enrolling in a Lagos public or private school must have a registration number from the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency, known as LASRRA.

Schools will begin obtaining and recording the numbers on September 14, 2026, as part of admissions and enrolment. The directive came from the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Alli-Balogun, and will be implemented through the Office of Education Quality Assurance.

The Lagos government says the measure will create a comprehensive and verifiable database of learners. Officials say the information will improve school record-keeping, strengthen identification and verification, support tracking, and give government agencies more reliable data for planning and service delivery.

Under the new arrangement, schools have been directed to include each learner’s LASRRA registration number in admission and school records and to sensitise parents and guardians on the requirement.

The government has directed schools to handle learners’ personal information confidentially and securely. The Office of Education Quality Assurance, working with LASRRA and other agencies, will develop procedures for generating and assigning unique personal identification numbers, while providing registration and verification support to schools and families.

Schools are also expected to advise parents whose children or wards are yet to register with LASRRA to complete the process ahead of the new academic session.
