Lagos receives Dazzle FC after Dana Cup triumph in Denmark

The Lagos State Government has officially welcomed Dazzle Football Club, celebrating their significant achievements at the 2026 Dana Cup held in Hjørring, Denmark. The young team made a remarkable debut on the international stage, clinching a gold medal in the U-12 category and a silver medal in the U-14 category.

Officials from the Lagos State Sports Commission, including Commissioner for Youth and Social Development Mobolaji Ogunlende and Director-General Lekan Fatodu, received the team. Fatodu commended the players and technical crew for their outstanding performance, emphasizing that their success has brought pride to Lagos State and Nigeria. He noted that such achievements serve as powerful inspiration for other young individuals to pursue their talents.

This is the manifestation of that word this morning," Fatodu remarked, underscoring the supportive environment for athletes. He further elaborated on the impact of their success, stating, "Without statistical information, your group is just a drop in the ocean when we talk of over 22 million population in Lagos and 200 million in Nigeria. Imagine when the drop creates a significant ripple. That is what you have done, and that ripple is what is going to inspire other people."

The U-12 team demonstrated exceptional skill, winning all nine of their matches, scoring an impressive 56 goals while conceding only six. Their journey included a semi-final victory over Brazil's RS Sports and a hard-fought 1-0 win after extra time in the final against Mexico's IFAC, with Akinremi Abdullahi scoring the decisive goal. The U-14 team also reached the final, ultimately losing 5-3 on penalties to Palestine's Rawahel after a draw. Despite the final's outcome, Toheeb Ojerinde from the U-14 team was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of his category, having kept three clean sheets in five matches.

Fatodu reaffirmed the Lagos State Sports Commission's dedication to nurturing sporting talent and empowering young people, aiming to inspire future champions. The reception highlighted the state's commitment to recognizing and celebrating the achievements of its young athletes.
