Lagos Security Fund Equips Navy Base Ahead of Elections

To bolster security operations in Lagos State, particularly in anticipation of the upcoming elections, the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF) has provided essential equipment to the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT. The donation includes 50 ballistic helmets, 50 bulletproof vests, and 100 raincoats, aimed at enhancing the operational capabilities of the naval base.

The visit was part of the Trust Fund’s regular engagement with security agencies in Lagos to assess their operational needs, boost personnel morale and identify areas requiring intervention.

Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan, Executive Secretary of the LSSTF, inspected the donated items on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, during a visit to NNS BEECROFT's Commander, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams Aliu. Ogunsan highlighted the Trust Fund's ongoing engagement with security agencies to assess their needs, boost morale, and identify areas requiring support. He affirmed the LSSTF's dedication to providing critical resources for agencies operating in Lagos to protect lives and property.

The LSSTF remained committed to supporting recognised security agencies operating in the state by providing critical equipment and resources needed to protect lives and property.

Ogunsan stressed the importance of this intervention, especially as the nation approaches a sensitive electoral period. He assured Lagos residents that security agencies would be adequately equipped to ensure law and order, with additional funding ready to be deployed to areas identified as needing more security support. Efforts are also underway to strengthen the overall operational capacity of security personnel.

He further noted that the state's security infrastructure would continue to receive attention, while civic and voter education would be handled by relevant agencies. Ogunsan mentioned previous LSSTF contributions, including operational vehicles and equipment, designed to address critical gaps in security operations. He also referenced recent security concerns in some areas, which prompted prompt government action, including the deployment of security personnel and increased patrols.
