Lagos Youths Launch Campaign for Tinubu, Hamzat Ahead of 2027 Elections

The youth wing of Nigeria's All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Ikosi-Ketu/Isheri area of Lagos has initiated a grassroots mobilization campaign supporting President Bola Tinubu's bid for a second term in 2027 and the gubernatorial ambition of Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat.

This is a grassroots movement. We are recognised but not sponsored by the party. We have only come here to express our support and readiness to support the reelection of President Bola Tinubu in 2027 and the election of Dr Obafemi Hamzat here in Lagos State.

The initiative, operating under the banner of Ikosi-Isheri Active Progressive Youths (IAPY), commenced with a three-kilometer solidarity walk that drew a significant number of supporters. Alaba Shonaike, a youth leader and sponsor of the event, emphasized that while the movement is recognized, it is not officially sponsored by the party. The walk served as the first in a series of planned political engagements leading up to the 2027 elections.

Shonaike asserted that President Tinubu has made substantial progress in fulfilling his promises to Nigerians, particularly through economic reforms. The organizers believe this performance warrants support for his re-election. The carnival-like procession, which took place on a Sunday, traversed key routes in the area, with participants wearing branded attire and displaying campaign materials for both Tinubu and Hamzat.

The rally on Sunday is more like the first in a series of political engagement activities planned for the coming months ahead of the 2027 elections.

Organizers reported a massive turnout, which they stated reinforces their commitment to sustaining mobilization efforts through additional rallies, community engagements, and grassroots outreach programs. Babaseun Fasheru, spokesperson for IAPY and a filmmaker, described the walk as the beginning of a broader campaign to disseminate the leaders' messages to a wider audience within and beyond the local council area.

We are making a bold claim that President Tinubu has delivered significantly on his promise to Nigerians, and we should support his reelection for a second term.

Fasheru added that the group's support for Tinubu's re-election is based on the perceived achievements of his administration since 2023, particularly its economic reforms. The campaign plans to continue engaging residents through community outreach, town hall meetings, and other mobilization activities in the coming months.
