Lake George compound bought for $2.4 million in 2006 lists for $7.99 million

A Lake George compound built around classic boating is now on the market for $7.99 million, after George and Kathleen Badcock bought the 1.37-acre property for $2.4 million in 2006.

The longtime owners of the historic Hacker-Craft motorboat brand transformed what had been an empty lot into a substantial waterfront retreat. The property now includes a roughly 6,000-square-foot, five-bedroom home, 300 feet of shoreline and a three-bay boathouse.

The house was designed to make the lake part of daily life. Large expanses of glass frame the water, while broad decks extend the living areas outdoors. Inside are four full bathrooms, two half baths, six fireplaces, a great room with a stone fireplace, a dining area, wet bar and gourmet kitchen. The first-floor primary suite has its own fireplace, a spa-style bathroom and direct waterfront access.

Other features include an executive office, a lower-level family room with another fireplace and wet bar, a screened lakeside porch, a guest suite and a three-car garage with living accommodations above it. The property once formed part of the grounds associated with a 42-room mansion, although the site stood vacant when the Badcocks purchased it.

The rarest feature may be the boathouse. It can hold boats up to 35 feet long and includes lifts and a sundeck. It currently houses a 1925 Hacker-Craft and Chris-Crafts from 1929 and 1954. Similar construction would not be allowed under current regulations, making the existing structure an especially unusual asset on Lake George. The Badcocks acquired The Hacker Boat Co. in 2011, linking the property directly to their classic mahogany motorboat business.
