Lalitpur court issues 21-day notice to Jyoti Gurung in cooperative fraud case

Jyoti Gurung, the former wife of Nepali Congress leader Dhanraj Gurung, is facing legal action in Lalitpur, Nepal. The Lalitpur District Court has issued a 21-day public notice for her to appear in connection with an alleged misappropriation of funds at the Miteri Cooperative.

Gurung is accused of embezzling around 125 million Nepalese rupees from the cooperative. While Dhanraj Gurung was initially linked to the case, proceedings against him were dropped due to insufficient evidence of his involvement. The notice lists Dhanraj Gurung as her spouse, providing family details.

The case was initiated by Bodh Bikram Thapa. An earlier summons issued to Jyoti Gurung had been canceled. Following a court order on May 19, the notice was published under Section 105(22) of the National Civil Procedure Code, 2017. Gurung is required to submit a written response and evidence within 21 days of the notice's publication, excluding travel time. The court warned that failure to appear could lead to legal proceedings in her absence, potentially forfeiting her right to challenge the case later.
