LAMATA expands Blue Line services to 94 trips daily, starts earlier

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) is enhancing its Blue Line service by increasing daily train operations and introducing earlier start times. Effective June 15, 2026, weekday and Saturday services will now begin at 6:00 AM, a 30-minute earlier start than previously observed.

LAMATA has announced a major enhancement to the Lagos Rail Mass Transit, Blue Line service, increasing daily train operations from 90 to 94 trips and shifting the start of weekday and Saturday services to 6:00 AM from the previous 6:30 AM.

This revised timetable aims to improve commuter convenience and reduce travel times, particularly by helping passengers avoid peak road traffic. The number of daily train trips has also been boosted from 90 to 94, a move designed to ease platform congestion and enhance travel efficiency.

The revised timetable, effective Monday, June 15, 2026, is designed to improve passenger convenience, reduce waiting times, and accommodate the growing number of commuters who rely on the rail corridor for faster, more reliable transportation.

LAMATA also announced improvements to Sunday services, increasing the number of trips from 22 to 24. Trains on Sundays will now run at consistent 30-minute intervals, offering greater predictability for passengers. These expansions reflect the growing demand and patronage of the Blue Line since its commercial operations began in September 2023.

Under the new schedule, trains will begin operations 30 minutes earlier from Monday to Saturday, enabling thousands of commuters to start their journeys ahead of peak road traffic.

The authority highlighted the significant impact of the rail system, noting that it has transported over six million passengers since its launch. This expansion is part of the Lagos State Government's ongoing efforts to bolster mass transit infrastructure and transform urban mobility within the city.
