Lampung Visit: Jokowi Receives Traditional Title "Baginda Pemuka Bangsa"

Indonesian President Joko Widodo, widely known as Jokowi, was bestowed the traditional adat title "Baginda Pemuka Bangsa" (roughly translated as "Sovereign Leader of the Nation") during a ceremony in Bandar Lampung. The event, held at Kedatun Keagungan, marked a significant cultural moment during his visit to the Lampung province.

The conferral of the title was the main agenda for the second day of Jokowi's visit. The ceremony involved intricate adat (traditional customary law) rituals, including the formalization of brotherhood among three prominent Buwai (clans or lineages): Penyeimbang Buwai Pemuka Way Kan, Buwai Subbing Terbanggi Balak, and Buwai Bulan Megow Pak Tulang Bawang.

Jokowi, dressed in traditional Lampung attire featuring golden hues and intricate tapis weaving, was welcomed with the "Nemui Nyimah" tradition, a gesture of respect for honored guests. The atmosphere was a blend of solemnity and festivity, with many local adat leaders and community members present to witness and document the occasion.

During the proceedings, Jokowi expressed his deep gratitude and happiness for the reception. He highlighted the honor as a testament to the strong and well-preserved adat culture in Lampung. The President also lauded the adat leaders for their continuous efforts in nurturing and preserving Lampung's cultural heritage amidst the evolving times, stressing the importance of passing these cultural values to future generations.
