Speaking to reporters on May 31 while arriving at the government complex in Sejong, Hong said he felt honored by the nomination but also carried a heavy sense of responsibility and duty. He pledged to provide quality homes quickly in preferred locations, with particular attention to housing stability for young people and newlyweds.

I will raise the pace so that the housing supply announced by the government becomes a policy with the capacity to act, from actual construction starts in the field through to occupancy.

Hong said he would speed up the government's housing supply measures so they lead to actual construction starts and move through to occupancy. He also said his experience working in Gyeonggi Province would help him coordinate with Seoul on issues requiring cooperation to increase housing supply in the capital.
