A sudden and massive landslide at Butterfly Valley waterfall in Taiwan's Taichung City has resulted in a tragic loss of life, killing four members of a hiking group and injuring another. The group of 16 hikers, all from Taipei, were enjoying a day trip when the disaster struck.

Survivors recounted the terrifying moments when the earth gave way. "The weather was good in the morning, I never expected this to happen," one survivor stated, describing how the pleasant hiking excursion turned into a scene of life and death within seconds. The landslide involved a large volume of soil and rocks, engulfing parts of the trail.

According to reports, the deceased individuals' bodies have been transported to the trailhead and will be taken to the Chongde Funeral Home in Taichung. The hikers were members of a regular climbing group, with plans for future excursions, highlighting the unexpected nature of the tragedy.

As the group was on their return journey, the team became separated due to varying paces. Those who were further ahead were closer to the waterfall, with some resting and taking photos while others were behind. It was at this moment that a deafening roar signaled the impending disaster. "The entire slope of trees and soil just collapsed!" a survivor recalled, emphasizing the immense scale of the event. Despite being some distance away, the sound and dust cloud immediately alerted them to the danger.
