Landslides and floods block nine highways in Nepal

Persistent rainfall has triggered landslides and flooding across Nepal, blocking nine major highways and disrupting traffic in several districts, according to Nepal Police. The most affected areas are in Koshi and Bagmati provinces, where sections of key roads are now impassable.

In Koshi Province, the Mid-Hill Highway in Bhojpur is operating one-way after flood damage. The Mechi Highway is blocked by landslides in Ilam and Panchthar districts. The Diktel-Bhojpur section of the Mid-Hill Highway in Khotang is also shut due to a landslide.

Bagmati Province has seen traffic suspended on the BP Highway due to flood risks. The Kathmandu-Hetauda Kanti Highway is also halted due to potential landslides and flash floods. The Araniko Highway in Sindhupalchok is completely blocked by landslides, while the Pasang Lhamu Highway in Rasuwa has one-way traffic. The Prithvi Highway faces complete blockage in Chitwan due to a landslide, with another section in Dhading also experiencing disruptions.

Nepal Police have warned of continued high risks from rainfall, landslides, and flooding, advising travelers to verify road conditions. The Department of Roads has deployed 155 heavy equipment units nationwide, with 122 more on standby, to address the monsoon-induced disruptions on critical road corridors.
