Large fire: More than 170 forces battle flames in residual waste storage

A significant fire erupted at a residual waste storage facility in Türkheim, located in the Unterallgäu district of Bavaria, Germany. The blaze necessitated a large-scale response, with 177 emergency personnel from multiple towns and municipalities deployed to combat the flames.

Firefighting efforts continued into the evening. Witnesses alerted the fire department around midday due to heavy smoke emanating from the industrial area. To extinguish the fire completely, two excavators were used to shift the entire residual waste storage area. The operation required substantial water volumes, leading to support from surrounding construction companies and farmers who provided water barrels.

Due to the intense smoke, traffic disruptions and road closures occurred temporarily near the Türkheim junction. The police are investigating the cause of the fire. Initial estimates place the damage in the six-figure euro range.

The incident highlights the challenges of managing industrial waste and the resources required to contain and extinguish fires in such facilities. The extensive deployment of personnel and equipment underscores the severity of the situation.
