Last-minute shock for 1860 Munich: “It hurts unbelievably”

TSV 1860 Munich were seconds away from a precious victory before Markus Ziereis delivered a painful twist for his former club. The former 1860 striker headed DJK Vilzing’s equalizer in the third minute of stoppage time, turning a 2-2 draw into a last-minute shock for the visitors.

Florian Niederlechner put the Lions ahead in the ninth minute. Vilzing equalized through Nik Leipold shortly after halftime, but 1860 restored their lead when Tunay Deniz struck from more than 60 meters. The playmaker saw Vilzing goalkeeper Fabian Eutinger standing too far from his goal and sent a spectacular shot over him in the 63rd minute.

Ziereis, who spent nine years with Munich, completed Vilzing’s comeback in front of a crowd from the Upper Palatinate village of around 500 people. “Scoring the equalizer with the final whistle is a wonderful thing for the whole club. The result extended 1860’s unbeaten run to six regional-league games, but it continued a frustrating pattern. Three days after losing 3-1 to TSV Buchbach in the state-cup round of 16, 1860 missed the chance to end the week with a win. The Lions next face Schwaben Augsburg at home on Friday.
