Late actor Ogogo’s remains arrive hometown for burial

The final rites for veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, are underway in his hometown of Ilaro, Ogun State. His remains arrived in the town on Monday, accompanied by an outpouring of grief from family members, colleagues, and residents gathered for the burial.

Actress Ireti Osayemi was among those who arrived in Ilaro to pay their last respects. Videos shared on social media captured the somber mood as the late actor's body was received for the final ceremonies.

Hassan, who was 66, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, after a battle with stage-four cancer. His death followed emotional appeals from his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, for urgent medical assistance for their father. The family had sought specialized care after doctors indicated that chemotherapy was no longer a viable option due to his condition.

The Ogun State Government remembered the late actor as a shining light whose talent helped promote Nigerian culture and the richness of Yoruba heritage globally. Hassan, an Ilaro native, was a prominent figure in the Yoruba film industry for decades.
