Late Senator Lindsey Graham's Sister Appointed Interim Senator for South Carolina

Darline Graham Nordone, the younger sister of the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham, has been appointed interim senator for South Carolina. Governor Henry McMaster announced the appointment on Monday, stating it serves as a tribute to her brother's political legacy.

"It is an honor to ask his younger sister, Darline Graham, to continue the work he began," McMaster said. The decision has received public support from former President Donald Trump and Senate Majority Leader John Thune, who view it as a symbolic gesture of respect for the former senator.

This interim appointment is temporary and officially launches the contest for the Republican nomination in the special election scheduled for August 11. Several Republicans are reportedly considering entering the race for the Senate seat in a state considered a Republican stronghold. Nordone expressed her honor in continuing her brother's work and pledged to support the president and advance her brother's efforts for the citizens of South Carolina and the United States.

Graham raised his younger sister after their parents' early deaths, and the siblings maintained a close relationship throughout their lives. Darline Graham Nordone has frequently accompanied him during his campaigns, including his 2015 presidential bid. She currently leads the South Carolina Commission for the Blind and has collaborated with Governor McMaster's administration.
