Lavrov says accusations over Leipzig drone mark the beginning of a real war

Sergei Lavrov says the accusations against Russia over a drone found at Leipzig airport amount to the beginning of an actual war. The Russian foreign minister made the remarks as tensions between Moscow and Berlin continue to rise.

Western countries have accused Russia in connection with an attempted drone attack at Leipzig-Halle Airport in Germany in early August. Germany recently held Russia responsible for the attempted attack on Aug. 4, after authorities found a drone carrying explosives.

He also pointed to the closure of Germany’s consulate general in Bonn and the reported shutdown of the Russian House in Berlin.

Lavrov compared the diplomatic closures with steps taken by Germany before World War II. He said Merz’s statements that Germany would again become Europe’s leading military power were already being put into practice. “He is essentially declaring war on us,” Lavrov said.

The Russian minister also warned that, in his view, the lessons of history had not been learned. “It turns out that these metastases of Nazism are beginning to break through. This is a dangerous phenomenon. I believe that the Russian leadership will draw the appropriate conclusions,” he said.
