LAWMA showcases skills of Summer School participants

Pupils who took part in the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s 2026 Summer School programme presented the skills and knowledge they gained during a ceremony at LAWMA headquarters in Ijora-Olopa.

The four-week programme combined theoretical and practical activities focused on waste management and environmental protection. Lagos State environmental adviser Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu praised the initiative as an investment in young people’s environmental awareness.

Rotimi-Akodu urged the participants to use what they learned in their daily lives and to encourage cleaner practices among their peers. He asked them to become “environmental ambassadors in their homes, schools and communities.”

LAWMA Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the agency established its academy to educate and empower young people as responsible environmental stewards. He said the programme also introduces pupils to economic opportunities in waste management and recycling.

Gbadegesin said properly managed waste can become a resource that creates jobs and supports livelihoods. LAWMA Academy head Hauwa Momoh-Ajibola outlined the activities completed during the summer school, while officials expressed hope that participants would apply the lessons in their homes and communities and help build a cleaner Lagos.
