Lawmaker criticizes ruling party's internal strife, urges focus on economy

Park Jie-won, a lawmaker with South Korea's main opposition Democratic Party, on Sunday urged politicians to support the president's diplomatic achievements rather than undermine them. He spoke out as President Lee Jae-myung reportedly secured significant business cooperation deals worth 1,375 trillion won (approximately $1 trillion) during a visit to San Francisco, meeting with tech leaders like Jensen Huang and Sam Altman.

When the president is achieving diplomatic success abroad, the ruling and opposition parties should not break even a cracked pot, let alone help.

Park criticized the opposition People Power Party, specifically targeting its leader, Jang Dong-hyuk, for remarks comparing the current administration to something that needs to be tasted to be understood. Park questioned if Jang would even taste excrement, a harsh retort to Jang's earlier statement.

He also pointed out the disunity within the ruling party, with some members chanting slogans about fair elections while the party leader spoke of election fraud. He urged Kim Min-seok, a candidate for party leader, to focus on revitalizing the economy for farmers and fishermen, suggesting this would lead the party into the future.
