Lawmaker Demands Expulsion of Party Leader from Ethics Committee

People Power Party lawmaker Cho Kyeong-tae has formally requested the party's ethics committee to expel and withdraw party membership from party leader Jang Dong-hyuk. Cho made the demand during a press conference at the National Assembly's Communication Center on July 8, stating that Jang's actions undermined the rule of law and public trust. Cho argued that the party's current crisis extends beyond electoral defeat, pointing to the leadership's irresponsibility and the suppression of dissenting voices. He specifically cited the "irresponsible leadership," "leadership vacuum," "undermining of the rule of law," and "authoritarian disciplinary politics" as reasons for the party's struggles. Cho emphasized that the expulsion is necessary for the party's survival and future electoral success, particularly in light of the devastating results in the June 3 local elections, where the party secured only 12 out of 17 metropolitan mayoral positions.
