Lawyer Comments on USKOK Operation: 'Krajač Not Arrested Due to Lack of Criminal Suspicion'

Siniša Krajač, the Secretary-General of the Croatian Olympic Committee (HOO), has not been arrested in the recent anti-corruption operation by USKOK, as there is no current suspicion of criminal wrongdoing against him. His lawyer, Ljubo Pavasović Visković, explained that while Krajač's home was searched, his non-arrest indicates a lack of evidence linking him to a crime.

Visković, who also chairs the supervisory board of HNK Hajduk, commented on the USKOK investigation that led to the arrest of HOO Director Damir Šegota and his wife on suspicion of bribery and money laundering. He noted that searching a residence is a common investigative step to find evidence, which could implicate the resident or a third party. Visković suggested that the timing of new arrests following a previous individual's defense statement might be connected.

If there is no evidence against a person, but there is an indication that something might be found with them, then USKOK proceeds with that option, but again, nothing unusual. It is very common for someone's home to be searched to find evidence against them or against a third party. However, the fact is that Mr. Krajač was not arrested, which means that for him, there is no suspicion at this moment that he committed a criminal offense.

The lawyer also addressed the case of Nenad Eror, a former spokesperson for the Croatian Ski Federation, who was previously arrested and released. Visković stated there were no new developments regarding Eror's case. He also touched upon the extradition proceedings of Vedran Pavlek, former director of Croatian skiing, indicating that recent events in Croatia would not impede his extradition.

Regarding an anonymous criminal complaint filed against the HNK Hajduk football club, Visković stated that while state prosecutors must conduct their checks, the complaint was likely leaked to destabilize the club. He asserted that Hajduk, despite facing challenges, operates lawfully. The arrests of Damir Šegota and his wife are reportedly linked to bribery and money laundering.
