Lawyer serves notice on officials over newborn deaths at Dhaka hospital

A Supreme Court lawyer has initiated legal action, serving a notice to eight government officials over the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Dhaka. Barrister MM Golam Sarwar Payel's notice demands the disclosure of probe reports and accountability for the incident that occurred on May 27.

However, no tangible or intangible action has been taken so far from the end of the government against the authorities concerned of the hospital to stop its operation.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the notice states that no tangible action has been taken against the hospital authorities, nor have those responsible for the deaths been arrested by the local police. Lawyer Sarwar is demanding the immediate publication of probe reports, transparency on actions taken by authorities, preservation of relevant records, and explanations for any failure to initiate legal, disciplinary, or administrative proceedings against the responsible parties.

It further said the local police station has not arrested the persons responsible for the culpable homicide.
