Lawyer Survives Assassination Attempt in Honduras After Gun Malfunctions

A lawyer in El Progreso, Honduras, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday afternoon. Marlon Iván Rodríguez was reportedly getting out of his vehicle when an assailant approached him, aimed a weapon, and pulled the trigger twice. Fortunately, the gun failed to fire on both occasions.

Following the failed attack, Rodríguez quickly retreated into his office to seek refuge. The incident has raised serious concerns about the escalating violence in the country.

The Honduran Bar Association (CAH), specifically its El Progreso chapter, has issued a strong statement demanding a thorough investigation into the assassination attempt. They are calling for the swift apprehension and punishment of all individuals involved in the criminal act.

The CAH expressed deep worry over the current state of violence and the high number of murders plaguing Honduras. They urged the government to implement effective measures to curb the wave of violence, which they stated is inflicting severe blows on families and contributing to a profound social and economic crisis.
