Leagues Cup 2026: How many and which matches will be played in Mexico?

For the first time in its history, the Leagues Cup 2026 will bring matches to Mexican soil, marking a significant expansion for the tournament that pits teams from Mexico's Liga MX against Major League Soccer (MLS) clubs. The sixth edition of the competition is set to commence on August 4 and conclude on September 6, with the Seattle Sounders aiming to defend their title.

Historically, the Leagues Cup has been hosted exclusively in the United States and Canada. However, this year, Mexican fans will have the opportunity to witness the action firsthand as four Liga MX stadiums will serve as venues. Toluca, América, and Tigres have been confirmed as host clubs, with a total of four matches scheduled to take place in Mexico.

The tournament holds considerable stakes beyond the championship trophy, as it awards three berths in the 2027 Concacaf Champions Cup. This makes the competition a crucial pathway for teams seeking continental qualification. The MLS has dominated recent editions, winning the last three titles, with Seattle Sounders, Columbus Crew, and Inter Miami all claiming championships. Furthermore, the last three finals exclusively featured U.S. teams, highlighting the league's recent dominance.

Liga MX will be looking to reverse this trend and reassert its strength in the tournament. The last time two Mexican clubs contested the final was in 2019 when Cruz Azul and Tigres faced off. Historically, Liga MX has secured three championships, while MLS also boasts three titles. This edition presents a significant opportunity for Liga MX to improve its recent performance against its North American counterparts.

The scheduled matches in Mexico include Toluca vs. Seattle Sounders on August 5 at the Nemesio Diez Stadium, América vs. San Diego FC on August 6 at the Banorte Stadium, Tigres vs. Vancouver Whitecaps on August 11 at the Universitario Stadium, and Toluca vs. FC Dallas on August 12, also at the Nemesio Diez Stadium. All matches will be broadcast on Apple TV via MLS Season Pass.
