Lebanese MP: Netanyahu ignores even US support amid election concerns

Lebanese Member of Parliament Najat Aoun Saliba has criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating he disregards even the United States, a long-standing ally of Israel. Saliba noted that this lack of responsiveness was evident even during Jared Kushner's visit, where Israeli adherence to American pressure was absent.

Speaking on Al-Qahira Al-Ekhbariya channel, Saliba suggested that upcoming Israeli elections significantly influence Netanyahu's calculations. She indicated that current opinion polls do not position him as the leading contender, prompting him to escalate the situation in Gaza and Lebanon. This escalation, she argued, aims to rally Israeli public opinion behind him.

Saliba drew parallels between the destruction in Gaza and Lebanon, stating both regions are experiencing similar devastation due to Israeli actions. She asserted Lebanon's status as an independent nation with its own government and president. While acknowledging diplomacy as the preferred option, she believes it can garner international support to pressure both Israel and Iran.

Gaza and Lebanon are living approximately the same stages of destruction and ruin as a result of Israeli crimes.

Furthermore, Saliba described the Iranian presence within underground tunnels in Lebanon, reportedly storing Hezbollah and Revolutionary Guard weapons, as a form of Iranian occupation. She characterized this presence as detrimental to Lebanon.
