Mainz 05 secured a resounding 9-0 victory in the first round of the DFB-Pokal, with South Korean midfielder Lee Jae-sung playing a key role. The German club's national team player started the match and contributed an assist in the commanding win against FC Krieschow, a team from the fifth division.

Lee Jae-sung, operating as a central midfielder, played for about 62 minutes before being substituted in the second half. This performance allowed him to manage his condition while contributing to the team's success. He recorded his first official assist of the season in the 39th minute, setting up Nadiem Amiri for a goal when Mainz was already leading 2-0.

The goals were distributed among the team, with Philipp Tietz scoring four times, Nadiem Amiri adding two, and individual goals from Sheraldo Becker, Jeobah Kömöndörffer, and William Boving completing the rout. The comprehensive win demonstrated Mainz's strength against a lower-division opponent.

Mainz will now shift their focus to the Bundesliga, with their opening match scheduled for August 29 against Paderborn. The German top flight begins its season a week later than other major European leagues.
