Lee Kang-in joins Atlético Madrid, greets fans in fluent Spanish

South Korean midfielder Lee Kang-in has officially joined Spanish La Liga club Atlético Madrid, marking his return to the Spanish league after a three-year stint with Paris Saint-Germain. Lee, who developed in the Valencia youth system, expressed his excitement and commitment to his new team in fluent Spanish.

In a video message shared on Atlético Madrid's social media, Lee greeted fans with the club's iconic slogan, "Aupa Atleti!" (Up! Atleti!). He then conveyed his happiness in Spanish, stating, "I am happy to be able to join a big club. I want to wear the ATM uniform quickly and enjoy this new adventure with the fans." The phrase "Aupa" is an exclamation of Basque origin used throughout Spain to express support and encouragement, while "Atleti" is a familiar nickname used by fans for the club.

Lee's fluent Spanish and his use of the club's unique cheer demonstrate his respect and genuine enthusiasm for Atlético Madrid. His transfer signifies a significant move, as he returns to the league where he first made his mark. Lee debuted in the first team for Valencia in 2018 before moving to Mallorca in 2021, where he spent two seasons and showed considerable growth, accumulating 10 goals and 14 assists in 135 official matches for both clubs.

Despite receiving interest from Atlético Madrid during the summer transfer window, Lee initially joined Paris Saint-Germain for a higher transfer fee of 22 million euros. During his three seasons with PSG, considered Europe's strongest team at the time, he won numerous titles, including two UEFA Champions League championships. Although he recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 124 official matches for PSG, his playing time in the Champions League knockout stages was limited.

With the departure of Antoine Griezmann, Atlético Madrid was concerned about weakening their attack. The club actively pursued Lee, whose desire to return to Spain aligned with their interests, leading to the successful completion of this major transfer.
