Letters in TV host's mother kidnapping case released by authorities

Authorities have released two letters connected to the alleged kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie. The letters, reportedly written by the abductors, were made public by the Pima County Sheriff's Office in Arizona, six months after the 84-year-old was taken from her home.

The first letter, dated Feb. 2, the day after Nancy Guthrie's disappearance, demanded a $4 million ransom in bitcoin within three days. It stated, "Your mother is aware of this, and her life is in your hands. There will be no negotiation. Do not play games. The police will not be able to help you."

The second letter, received by the family on Feb. 6, conveyed that Nancy Guthrie had died. "We did not fully understand how serious her physical condition was. She died shortly after she was abducted. We believe it was due to a heart problem. She is now buried in the wild," the letter stated, also offering an apology.

Authorities have not confirmed if they believe the TV host's mother is still alive. The sheriff's office is appealing to the public for any information that could help identify a masked individual seen on a surveillance camera at Nancy Guthrie's front door around the time of her disappearance. Many questions remain unanswered, including the number of individuals involved and whether Nancy Guthrie knew her abductors. Savannah Guthrie recently shared a video urging the kidnappers to reveal her mother's burial location.
