LG Electronics stabbing suspect claims dismissal anger; victims cite duty change request

Police are reviewing whether to seek a detention warrant for a man in his 60s who allegedly attacked employees at an LG Electronics office in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, with a knife. The suspect, identified as an employee of an LG Electronics contractor, has told police that he committed the act out of anger after being informed of his dismissal.

However, the victims, both LG Electronics employees aged in their 50s and 40s, have countered this narrative. They stated that they had only requested a change in his duties due to his struggles with the workload, rather than initiating termination. This discrepancy in accounts means the investigation is continuing to clarify the precise motive behind the violent incident.

Authorities responded to the scene around 11:18 AM after receiving a report of two men stabbed and collapsed. The suspect was apprehended near the Digital Media City (DMC) subway station in Seoul. The victims suffered severe injuries, including stab wounds to their sides, elbows, arms, and shoulders, but are reported to be in stable condition and not facing life-threatening danger.

Given the conflicting statements from the victim and the suspect, the police plan to conduct further investigations to uncover the full details of the motive and the circumstances leading up to the stabbing. The incident highlights a potential workplace dispute that escalated dramatically.
