LG Energy Solution Partners with Academia and Government to Nurture Battery Talent

LG Energy Solution is partnering with Chungbuk University, the Chungbuk provincial government, and the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy to cultivate specialized talent for the burgeoning battery sector. The collaboration, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed at Chungbuk University, aims to bridge the gap between academic education and the practical technical demands of the industry.

The initiative aligns with the government's strategy to foster regional talent in growth-engine industries. Key participants at the signing ceremony included Kim Ki-soo, Chief Human Resources Officer at LG Energy Solution; Cho Jeong-ho, Dean of Planning at Chungbuk University; Byun In-soon, Director of the AI Science Talent Bureau for Chungbuk Province; Choi Woo-hyeok, Director of Advanced Industry Policy at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy; and Lee Hee-yeop, Executive Director of the Korea Battery Industry Association.

Under the agreement, the participating institutions will jointly develop educational programs and short-term courses tailored to the specific needs of the battery industry. They will also explore expanding contract-based enrollment and employment-linked educational models. LG Energy Solution researchers and experts will contribute by providing lectures and mentorship, alongside offering field training and internship opportunities for students.

This collaboration is particularly significant for the Chungbuk region, which is a hub for battery and related component manufacturers, including LG Energy Solution's Ochang Energy Plant. The partnership is expected to strengthen the talent development infrastructure in the Ochang area and enhance the competitiveness of local industries. "It is meaningful to build a regional talent development and R&D ecosystem for the battery industry through cooperation between companies, local governments, and the government," said Kim Ki-soo, CHO of LG Energy Solution. Chungbuk University's Dean of Planning, Cho Jeong-ho, added that they would promote the development of specialized talent and industry-academia cooperation to lead regional strategic industries. The provincial government also pledged continued institutional and administrative support to establish a robust battery talent training system.
