Li Szechuan and Su Chiao-hui trade leads in polls as KMT candidate vows to visit all 29 districts

Li Szechuan says he will keep walking through all 29 districts of New Taipei to strengthen support in the places where his campaign is weaker. His pledge came after an August TVBS poll showed him ahead of Democratic Progressive Party candidate Su Chiao-hui by 6.7 percentage points, while Su led in Banqiao, Tucheng and among younger voters.

Li said he would study all available polls, paying particular attention to young voters and the districts of Banqiao, Tucheng and Shulin. He has already presented more than 20 policy proposals, including linking an artificial intelligence and high-technology corridor to international opportunities for young people.

His platform also includes measures connected to marriage, childbirth and work, such as policies supporting families with children and a goal of providing public childcare in every school. Li said he would use these proposals to seek support from younger voters and residents across the city.

The poll also indicated that roughly 74% of supporters of the Taiwan People’s Party’s “little grass” movement backed Li’s mayoral bid. Asked about that support, Li said he meets TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang regularly each month and that communication between them remains open.

Li added that his campaign notifies TPP candidates in New Taipei about every event and that they take part in those activities. He repeated that cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Taiwan People’s Party in New Taipei would not change, either before or after the election.
