Libya and African Development Bank Group launch transport sector reforms to drive economic recovery

Libya's economic recovery is gaining momentum with the launch of crucial reforms in its transport sector, a move spearheaded by the African Development Bank (AfDB) in collaboration with the Tripoli-based Ministry of Transport. This initiative, marked by a recent three-day workshop in Tunis, signifies a critical step towards rebuilding and modernizing the nation's infrastructure.

The AfDB's commitment, demonstrated through a $340,000 grant from its Middle-Income Country Technical Assistance Fund (MIC-TAF), underscores the bank's dedication to supporting Libya's transition. The grant will finance a comprehensive strategic transport sector plan, encompassing situational analysis, gap identification, and prioritized actions for short- to medium-term implementation. This plan is designed to enhance efficiency, boost connectivity, and reduce the isolation of underserved areas, thereby improving the quality of life for all Libyans.

Led by Issam Abdallah Al-Qouri, Chair of the Preparatory Committee at the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority, the Libyan delegation's active participation in the workshop highlights the government's commitment to this vital sector. The involvement of various authorities, including the Ministry of Finance, Land Transport Authority, and Roads and Bridges Implementation Authority, ensures a holistic approach to reforming the transport network.
