Libya electoral roadmap talks conclude in Tunis

Discussions on advancing Libya's electoral process concluded in Tunis yesterday with a "mini-meeting" focused on the first two steps of a UN-facilitated roadmap. The meeting, facilitated by UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh, addressed the formation of a High National Elections Commission and the amendment of the legal framework for elections.

Participants initialed a draft final agreement, signaling progress toward establishing the necessary bodies and laws for future elections. This initialed agreement covers the agreed-upon details regarding electoral laws and the composition of the High National Elections Commission's board of directors.

The parties involved have committed to reconvening inside Libya before the end of the current month. This upcoming meeting aims to finalize all arrangements for the implementation of the agreement and its official public announcement, marking a crucial step in the UN's efforts to guide Libya toward stability.
