Lidl has supported first-graders from day one by giving parents a paid day off for 12 years

For parents, a child’s first day at school is a moment they cannot repeat. Lidl Croatia has therefore continued a tradition of giving employees a paid day off so they can spend that day with their first-graders.

The benefit, offered for the 12th consecutive year, allows parents to be present from preparations at home and the journey to school through the wait after the first lessons. Lidl also surprised the children of its employees with gifts and wished them joy, curiosity and success in the school days ahead.

When we talk about caring for employees, it is important to us that this support is visible precisely in situations when they need it most.

Ana Biloš, head of Talent Development and Engagement at Lidl Croatia and Lidl Slovenia, said the company wanted its support for employees to be visible when families needed it most. She said starting school changes the rhythm of the entire family and that the first day offers an opportunity parents cannot repeat.

The paid day off forms part of Lidl’s feelgood@lidl human-resources strategy, which aims to support employees both at work and outside it. After 12 years, the initiative has become a tradition intended to make the start of the school year easier for employees becoming parents of schoolchildren.
